What is
The Girls Foundation of Tanzania?

The Girls Foundation of Tanzania is a community dedicated to learning, collaborating, volunteering, training and teaching. 

We provide educational support for bright girls and young women living in extreme poverty. Our support includes tuition scholarship as well as learning opportunities outside the classroom. We partner with each student from secondary school through university to develop her life skills, to promote teamwork, and to strengthen her academic success so each student can reach her full potential.

Why do Tanzanian girls need our help?

Due to widespread poverty and societal prejudice against women, even the brightest and most determined young girls are frequently denied their right to an education. In many Tanzanian families, a son's education is prioritized, even though evidence shows that investing in in a girl's education could break their cycle of poverty. Because of this discrimination young girls are forced to stay at home and help with chores until they are married. 

  • 95% of Tanzanian girls do not graduate from high school

  • Only 17% of girls enroll in secondary school

  • Fewer than 4% of high school-aged girls complete secondary school

HOW WE HELP
IMPROVE THE LIVES OF GIRLS AND YOUNG WOMEN 

We provide formal educational opportunities as well as access to the  TGFT Girls Center to improve the lives of underprivileged girls and women. By educating and supporting bright girls, with the vision of focusing on one girl at a time, we believe we can empower them to change their futures.
